Reference 5089 was originally launched in the year 2014 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Patek Philippe. It belongs to the Rare Handcraft series and each are exceptionally hand made with a colourful pattern or scenery.
Inspired by a painting from French geologist Jacques Debelmas, the present example cased in white gold depicts a marquetry dial with the scenery of Lac d’Emosson in the Swiss canton of Valais. Marquetry has been an ancient Greek technique traditionally used for decorating furniture and small wooden objects, which involves wooden fragments painstakingly crafted and assembled together. The result is an elegant and organic dial, combined by wooden materials such as walnut, chestnut, maple and burl, detailing the mountains, rivers, snow and vegetation. Marquetry has been a technique adopted by Patek Philippe, first seen in 2008 with the Black Crowned Cranes of Kenya pocket watch, and the manufacturer has mastered it ever since.
The watch is furthermore offered in excellent overall condition.
