The present watch belongs to the R series, the first batch of the watch ever produced, and features the correct and coveted ‘floating’ dial where the word cosmograph is separate from the main body of text on the dial. Both features indicate that this watch was part of the very earliest batch of the 165XX to be manufactured by Rolex. What makes this watch special is that this is the first execution of the Rolex Daytona ever made in two-tone steel and yellow gold, with the manual winding Daytonas only coming in full stainless steel or yellow gold configurations. Since this is from the earliest batch of 165XXs it can also be said that the present watch was one of the first two-tone Daytonas to ever be produced.
