The images of the lot also form part of the online condition report for the lot provided by Sotheby's. Any reference to condition in the online condition report does not amount to a full description of condition. The online condition report may make reference to particular imperfections of the lot but you should note that the lot may have other faults not expressly referred to in the online condition report of the lot or shown in the online images of the lot (for example, the online condition report may not specify mechanical replacements or imperfections to the movement, case, dial, pendulum, separate base(s) or dome). Watches in water-resistant cases have been opened to examine movements but no warranties are made that the watches are currently water-resistant. The reference 2551 was one of Patek Philippe’s earliest automatic wristwatch models and featured their first and most revered automatic movement, the caliber 12-600 also used in reference 2526. In fact, 14 references in total shared this legendary movement, produced in circa 7,100 examples. Its 2 piece Wenger-made case is complimented by its Stern Freres dial, made in 5 different variations. The current example features the applied bullet indexes with a double index at 12. It is thought that circa 240 reference 2551 were cased in 18K pink gold, with only 25 having reappeared in the market since production ended in 1960 and the launch of its replacement reference 3433
