32 in. (81.3 cm) high

22 1/2 in. (57.2 cm) diameter of shade

Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the shade displays an incredibly rich palette that is more variegated and nuanced compared to the catalogue illustration. The peonies are articulated in a range of red and pink tones including deep crimson, magenta, fuchsia, and coral with a few blossoms depicted in pastel pink and creamy white. The transition from deep red to lighter blossoms is highly artistic and emulates the variety in blooms seen in a garden. The peony blossoms are offset by leaves in warm and cool shades of green with aqua accents. The shade with approximately 16 hairlines throughout, stable. The shade with some minor traces of surface soiling concentrated to the contours adjacent to the leadlines, consistent with age. The “Chased Pod” base is in overall very good condition. The bronze surfaces throughout with scattered minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use. The bronze with some oxidation throughout the foot, consistent with age. The telescoping mechanism adjusts easily. With a period switch mechanism and knob. With a period finial in very good condition with light wear consistent with age and handling. While the lamp was in working order at the time of cataloguing, Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and suggests having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician. A vibrant and highly artistic example of the model.
