Pair of "Direction" Armchairs, Model No. 352

circa 1951

produced by Ateliers Jean Prouvé, Nancy, France

enameled sheet and tubular aluminum, oak, leather upholstery

32 x 24 x 23 1/2 in. (81.2 x 60.9 x 59.6 cm) each

Overall in very good condition. This iconic model by Prouvé is fully functional and ready for use. The metallic surfaces have been sensitive and professionally repainted in a rich and bright black color. The painted metal frames of the chair with light surface abrasions throughout and extremely minor areas of discoloration concentrated to the back legs. The original oak surface with expected signs of age, namely a variegated brown palette, minor surface irregularities and light surface abrasions concentrated to the edges. The leather upholstery appears to have been replaced at some point in the history of the piece and is in excellent condition, with very light creasing visible towards the outer edges of both seats.
