seated in rajalilasana on a lotus base supported on a waisted hexagonal pedestal stand, both hands clasped around the raised right knee, a sash draped over the shoulders, dressed in a dhoti tied at the waist and falling in loose folds over the legs, the oval face peering outward with a dignified and benevolent expression framed by hair pulled into a high chignon behind a diadem

Compare a closely related figure sold at Christie's Amsterdam, 5th December 2000, lot 374. Another related example attributed to the Liao dynasty, formerly in the collections of Martin Erdmann and F. Brodie Lodge, sold at Sotheby’s London, 7th June 1988, lot 48 and again at Christie’s Hong Kong, 30th May 2018, lot 2858, and now resides in the collection of the Tsz Shan Museum, Hong Kong, acc. no. 2018.08.
The outcome of radiocarbon analysis is consistent with the dating of this lot.
