An archaistic celadon jade gu-form vase

20th century

二十世紀 青玉雕仿古饕餮紋獸耳活環出戟海棠式花觚


of quadrilobed section, the central bulb carved with taotie masks and set between a splayed base and flaring trumpet mouth both patterned with stylized cicada lappets, each side of the vase bisected by a central vertical flange, the narrow sides of the neck set with a pair of beast-mask-handles suspending loose rings, the stone an even pale green tone with a few scattered russet or icy patches


Height 8 ⅞ in., 22.8 cm

Collection of Mr. and Mrs. James Leipner.

Gifted to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, in 1978 (acc. no. 78.201.3).
