Ming dynasty

明 青玉鏤雕穿花螭龍紋桃形洗


the vessel surrounded by a deftly carved openwork lattice of twisted branches issuing lush flower blossoms and sinuous leaves, supporting a pair of clambering chilong flanking and peering over the rim, their fur and limbs articulated with deeply incised scrolls, dots, and linework, a smaller chilong perched nearby, the beige-celadon stone with a few fine russet fissures


Width 6 ¼ in., 16 cm

Collection of Mrs. Walter N. Rothschild (1896-1987).

Gifted to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, in 1963 (acc. no. 63.6.67).
