A Wedgwood majolica ovoid vase and cover and pedestal, 1885

the vase and cover in three sections, surmounted by a swan, the ovoid body with three handles with reeded terminals supported by three swans among bullrushes on a shaped triangular base, the cylindrical pedestal moulded with vases issuing flowers and geometric pattern panels, enriched in claret and ochre glazes, impressed marks and date codes to the underside of the foot, the pedestal with impressed mark and shape no. 3535

approx. overall 203.5cm. high; vase 56in. high, pedestal 24½in.

Overall of good appearance with some minor restoration that one might expect with a sculptural form of this scale. The plinth is enriched in the same palette, but it is slightly mismatched to the vase. The swan’s beaks to the lower part have been restored, potentially with some replacement, and there is some associated restoration to the neck of one. Some rubbing to the extremities of the plinth, a few retouched chips and flakes, and a slight crack along the edge of the rim. Overall of appearance.
