A silver-mounted baby tortoiseshell snuff box, unmarked, probably English or Scottish, early 18th century


oval, the mount and hinged lid engraved with a formal arrangement of foliate scrolls within a gadroon border, the shell further mounted with a similarly engraved segment, 9cm., 3 ½ in wide; together with a silver-mounted conch-shell snuff box, the mounts engraved with foliage and two birds flanking a heart-filled basket within a gadroon border, the shell for the base toffee-coloured with whitish spots, the shell for the hinged cover, cream-coloured with brown spots, unmarked, probably Scottish, early 18th century, 7.1cm., 2 ¾ in. wide; and a Victorian silver nutmeg grater, oval, chased to resemble a shell, the interior with hinged silver-mounted steel grater, Hilliard & Thomason, Birmingham, 1867, 4.5cm., 1 ¾ in. wide
