domed cover surmounted by a medal of Pope Paul II (1468) flanked by kneeling angels, fitted with cushion-shaped rubies and square garnets, detachable calyx with three table-cut sapphires in enameled gold mounts, one sapphire drilled, baluster cast stem fitted with three square paste stones, shaped circular foot, embossed, chased and cast with angels, angel’s masks, fruit and strapwork on matting, fitted with enameled Holy Monogram, image of the Passion and kneeling saint

The papal medal is for Pietro Barbo, born in Venice in 1417 and when pope which he became in 1463, known as Paul the Venetian. He built the Palazzo St. Marco in Rome later name the Palazzo Venezia.
