A pair of Sèvres porcelain ice-pails, covers and liners

(glacière vase AB), of Etruscan form, painted with named Spanish and Swiss topographical views within rectangular cartouches, titled in black script "Vue de Dornach-au-pont", "Aqueduc près de L’alhambra", the other with "Monastere du Mont-serrat" and "Château de Dornach", on a purple ground painted in a darker tone and gilt with trellis reserved with quatrefoil flowerhead ornament, above bands of gilt stiff leaves, with flared white rims gilt with bands of palmettes, supported by richly gilt spreading stems and square bases, the covers with gilt knop finials, the purple ground enclosed by borders gilt with meandering leaf tendrils, the plain liners with gilt rims, printed blue interlaced C enclosing fleur-de-lys above Sevres/25, incised marks to liners, traces of gilt mark to one foot

Vue de Dornach-au-pont, from an engraving ”Vue Frise Auprés du village Dornach au pont” by, Jules-Louis-Frédéric Villeneuve published in the first volume of “Lettres sur la Suisse” a collaboration by Hilaire-Léon Sazerac and Godefroy Engelmann , with later volumes with contributions by Désiré-Raoul Rochette and Marie-Philippe-Aimé de Golbéry were published in five volumes (1823-1832) at the time this service was produced. The view of Château de Dornach is from the same source. The view of the Monastery at Monserrat is after the engraving “Entrada del Monasterio de Mont-Serrat, por el camino de coches” by Louis Garreau, published in Alexandre de Laborde, “Voyage pittoresque et historique de l’Espagne”, published in Paris in 1806. The other Spanish view, Aqueduc près de L’alhambra from an engraving by Marie Alexandre Duparc.
