A German Art Deco Electroplate Smokers Aeroplane Compendium, probably Henckels
c.1930
comprising: two cigarette cases, humidor, removable circular box with two ashtrays, match holder and striker, cigar cutter, inscribed on the wing in French Tunis/ Constantine Alger / souvenir charmant / Yvonne / Avril 1931
24cm., 9½ in. long
The inscription is believed to be a facsimile of a note written by Yvonne Jourjon, the well-known pilot and the first woman flight instructor in France. Probably a gift to her partner Michel Détroyat, a famous and controversial fellow pilot who visited Algeria in May 1930.
