Property of a Lady

Enamel and diamond brooch

late 19th century

Designed as the interlocking dates of 1837 and 1897, Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, decorated with navy guilloché and white enamel, with circular-cut diamond accents at the cardinal points.

The brooch was given to Lady Adela Jenner (1833-1920) by Queen Victoria (1819-1901).

Thence by family descent to the present owner.

The brooch was gift from Queen Victoria (1819-1901) to Lady Adela Jenner, née Lucy Leman (1833–1920) on the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Lady Jenner was married to Sir William Jenner, 1st Baronet, (1815–1898), a distinguished English physician, who was appointed Physician in Ordinary to Queen Victoria in 1862. Outside of his royal duties Jenner was primarily known for having discovered the distinction between typhus and typhoid.
