Totoya Hokkei (1780-1850) 

The Lesser Water Dragon of the Tenpo Period (Tenpo mizunoe tatsu)

Edo period, 19th century


woodblock print, surimono, embellished with metallic pigments and embossing, signed Oju Hokkei ga [by request, pictured by Hokkei], privately issued in 1832, depicting a Chinese immortal leaning on a desk with a dragon-headed lute, a rock edifice appearing from the incense smoke, poems by Shio Hibimasu and Tatsuya 


Surimono, shikishiban: 20.6 x 17.8 cm., 8⅛ x 7 in.
