woodblock print, from an untitled series known as Large Flowers, signed saki no Hokusai Iitsu hitsu, censor's seal kiwame, published by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudo), circa 1831-32 


Horizontal oban: 26.7 x 39.4 cm., 10½ x 15½ in.

The so-called Large Flowers series that Hokusai designed for the publisher Nishimuraya Yohachi in about 1831-32 comprises ten prints in total. In this design, Hokusai depicts a butterfly fluttering above a group of peony flowers and foliage that bend in a gentle breeze.
