woodblock print, from an untitled series known as Large Flowers, signed saki no Hokusai Iitsu hitsu, censor's seal kiwame, published by Nishimuraya Yohachi (Eijudo), circa 1831-32


Horizontal oban: 26.6 x 39.3 cm., 10½ x 15½ in.

The so-called Large Flowers series that Hokusai designed for the publisher Nishimuraya Yohachi in about 1831-32 comprises ten prints in total. In the present design, Hokusai delicately depicts a horsefly descending into a group of chrysanthemum flowers.
