34,2 cm ; 13½ in.
This elegant pear-shaped bottle with an elongated neck for easy handling is a form often seen in contemporary seventeenth century Persian miniatures paintings. The slender neck typical of this shape of bottle is often susceptible to damage, as noted in the present example. The influence of Chinese porcelain is visible in the use of blue and white. These bottles were often made for export to China. There are blue and white porcelain bottles of comparable form but denser floral decoration to the body in the Victoria and Albert Museum, see Yolanda Crowe, Persia and China – Safavid Blue and White Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum 1501-1738, London, 2002, nos. 374, 375, p.217. A further example of comparable form was sold at auction, Sotheby’s London, 24 October 2007, lot 162.

On peut les voir au Victoria and Albert Museum, Londres, Y. Crowe, Persia and China - Safavid Blue and White Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum 1501-1738, Londres, 2002, nos. 374, 375, p. 217.
