"Clématites" Two-Tiered Dessert Table

circa 1900

mahogany, rosewood marquetry, gilt bronze

signed L. Majorelle in the marquetry

31 x 36 x 22 1/2 in. (78.7 x 91.4 x 57.1 cm)

Overall in very good condition. This table presents with superb details and marquetry decorations in very well-preserved condition. The wooden surfaces appear to have been sensitively refinished at some point in the history of the table to revitalize the rich quality of the mahogany. The mahogany presents with scattered surface scratches, abrasions, indentations, small nicks and surface wear particularly concentrated to the edges, legs and feet. As visible in the catalogue photography, the tabletop presents with a few areas of more concentrated scratching to the wood, not visually distracting. The two tiers present with scattered water stains, minor discolorations and light surface soiling consistent with gentle use. The rosewood marquetry is well-preserved with occasional crackling to the surface consistent with age and a few very shallow chips and extremely minor losses only visible upon close inspection. The gilt bronze mounts are in very well-preserved condition with light wear, traces of oxidation and surface soiling concentrated to the recessed areas of the design.
