gelatin silver print, signed, dated, and annotated '3/5' in ink in the margin, flush-mounted, with the 'Photo by: Robert Mapplethorpe' stamp in red ink on the reverse, framed, 1979, one from an edition of 10 plus 2 artist's proofs

image: 13 ⅞ by 13 ⅞ in. (35.2 by 35.2 cm.)

frame: 24 ¼ by 22 ¾ in. (61.6 by 57.8 cm.)

Please note the colors and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings. This photograph is in generally excellent condition. There are a few deposits of original retouching in the black background. When examined closely in raking light, the following are visible: a small cluster of tiny pinpoint-sized impressions in the lower left quadrant; a few slightly glossy areas; and some fingerprints, mostly in the left portion of the image. On the reverse are scattered faint foxmarks, an abrasion near the upper edge, and hinge remnants along the lower edge. The margin is erroneously editioned '3/5' in the photographer's hand in ink. The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation has confirmed that this work is in fact one from an edition of 10 plus 2 artist's proofs.
