This horse bridle cheek-piece may draw its iconography from the representation of the tail of a dragon or silkworm and could have been intended to form a section of a taotie mask. Compare a bridle cheek-piece, dated to the 8-6th centuries B.C., in the collection of the British Museum, illustrated in William Watson, Ancient Chinese Bronzes, Faber and Faber Limited, London, 1977, pl. 82a.
