The tall crown is typical of Liao figures. Compare related sculptures from the Huayansi temple in Datong, Shanxi province. The single Tibetan character Buddha in the centre of the head’s crown maybe used here as a substitute for the miniature image of Amitābha, the buddha who usually appears in the headdress of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Compare a slightly later Boaddhisattva with a similarly inscribed headdress, in the Mineapolis Institute of Art, published on https://collections.artsmia.org/art/13718/head-of-a-bodhisattva-china.
