A rare celadon and russet jade ‘two faces’ pendant

Neolithic period, Hongshan culture


the ornament possibly derived from a 'cloud' or 'comb' pendant, with an opening gap at the center of the lower edge and flanked by two human profiles, pierced for suspension, the stone of yellow colour with russet patches along the edges

A figurine, very similar in the work and treatment to the present pendant, donated to the Musée Cernuschi in Paris in 1947 and dated to the Neolithic period, post-Shijiahe culture, was included in the Paris Musée National des Arts Asiatiques - Guimet, museum's exhibition 'Jade - des empereurs à l'Art déco', published in the exhibition catalogue, Paris 2016, no. 30, p. 34.

巴黎市立賽努奇博物館於1947年獲捐贈屬新石器時代後石家河文化一例,與此珮工藝非常近似,曾於法國吉美國立亞洲藝術博物館《Des Empereurs à l’Art Déco》展覽展出,並載於展覽圖錄,巴黎,2016,編號30,頁34。
