of generous proportions, circular with rounded sides and a tapering hole pierced in the centre, the jade of pale celadon coulour with a brown patch

A similar deep green jade bead excavated from the Tengjiagangzi site, Qiqihaer, Heilongjiang, is illustrated in Gu Fang, Zhongguo chutu yuqi quanji/The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, Beijing, 2005, vol. 2, pl. 201. Similarly shaped beads in agate, in different sizes, as well as a tubular agate bead are among the Neolithic finds in the Shang tomb of Lady Hao, see Yinxu Fu Hao mu/Tomb of Lady Hao at Yinxu in Anyang, Beijing, 1980, col. pl. 36: 2.
