Deux têtes

signé Francis Picabia et daté 1934 (en bas vers le centre)

huile sur toile

45,6 x 54,8 cm; 18 x 21⅝ in.

Peint en 1934.

The canvas is not lined. There is a milky and uneven varnish which appears to have slightly yellowed in areas and which prevents UV light from fully penetrating. Examination under UV light appears to reveal spots and lines of retouching scattered, notably along the extreme edges, to the figures foreheads and cheeks and in the green pigment. There are a few flecks of paint losses in places, most predominately to the left-hand figure. There are webs of stable craquelure mainly visible under racking light. There is frame rubbing associated with paint losses along the extreme edges. This work is in overall good condition.
