An Etrusco-Corinthian Black-figured Pottery Olpe

attributed to the Group of the Phoenician Palmettes, ca. 580-560 B.C.


with rays above the foot, palmette chain around the body, long tongues on the shoulder, dotted rosettes on the neck, and S-shaped motifs flanking the handle.

Height 31 cm.

European private collection, 19th Century (a fragmentary label on the underside in 19th c. hand reads: "V[as]o Etrusco / IV Secolo A(vanti) Cris[to / d]i Sovana", another old label bears the number 36 in red ink)
Monsieur Talbot, Belgium, acquired in the 1980s (Drouot-Richelieu, Paris, Bailly-Pommery & Associés, March 17th, 2006)
