An Egyptian Limestone Canopic Jar

with lid in the form of the head of the Son of Horus Imsety, protector of the liver, wearing a long wig, his mouth finely carved, remains of a panel of painted inscription on the body, traces of an old ink-written label inside.

Height 42.2 cm.

Lid: Two large chips on the lower edge to the back of the wig, large shallow chip on the back of the head, and a large area of abrasion on the top. Note shallow chip on the front proper left wig lappet, and slight abrasion on the tip of the nose.


Jar: Two chips along the rim, and some staining/scratching. The panel of the inscription half faded away. An old label on the back with some late 19th/early 20th century writing in ink, no longer legible.
