Venetian-Style Glass Mirror

20th century

mirrored glass, ebonized wood

34 ¼ x 37 ½ x 5 in. (87 x 95.2 x 12.7 cm)

Overall in good condition. This stunning mirror presents with beautiful decorations and a spectacular scale when viewed firsthand. The mirrored glass surfaces present with light surface scratches, scuffing and some minor soiling concentrated to the recessed edges of the mirror. As pictured in the catalogue photography, the mirror displays some scattered losses to the silvering plate concentrated to the left side of the mirror and scattered areas around the frame, the largest on the bottom edge of the mirror measuring approximately 1 3/8 in. long. The frame comprises very small glass flower-shaped decorations which are screwed in (8 around the mirror and 8 on the outer frame), one of which with a chip. The painted wood board backing the mirror with scratches, areas of discoloration, abrasions as well as small chips and areas of minor loss to the wooden surface which are not detrimental to functionality. The lower right side of the wood frame with a small hairline crack to the wood measuring approximately 1 1/4 in. The wooden surfaces to the reverse of the mirror are stable (one wood plank is loose, not affecting functionality) and present with signs of significant age. Ready to hang.
