Pair of Side Chairs

circa 1913

pearwood, fabric upholstery

each twice impressed ANDRE GROULT with the artist's mark

34 x 18 x 17 in. (86.3 x 45.7 x 43.1 cm) each

Overall in very good condition. When seen in person, the chairs display superb sculpted details on the backrest and around the seating area. The chairs appear to have been reconditioned at some point in their history to revitalize the rich quality of the pearwood. The wood presents with rich variations in color and texture when seen in person. The wooden surfaces present with scattered indentations concentrated to the side edges and surface scratches throughout, consistent with age and gentle use. The wooden surfaces present with occasional areas of sensitive restoration and filling to the seams to maintain structural integrity of the piece. The chairs have been sensitively reupholstered by the present owner with an off-white fabric in excellent condition.
