porcelain with blue glaze and a manganese rim
with the artist's cypher
3 ¾ in. (9.5 cm) high
9 in. (22.8 cm) diameter
Overall in very good condition. Incredibly delicate, this superb piece presents with a stunning array of blue hues and a lustrous manganese rim, making it a definite collection highlight. When viewed in person, the bowl presents with varying shades of blue ranging from turquoise to sapphire blue. The porcelain surface presents with very minor irregularities inherent to the making and to the artist’s handmade technique. A small area of the well appears to have been re-fired at the time of production, which is common for late works by Lucie Rie and is not visually distracting. The foot presents with some very light adhesive residue which is not visible unless inspected under UV light. This lot has been inspected under UV light and presents with no apparent evidence of restoration.
