This composition derives from Joseph-Désiré Court’s masterpiece The Death of Caesar, exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1827, and now at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Arras (inv. no. D 926.9).1 Another version by Court can be found at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier.2
