The Rolex GMT-Master reference 16700 superseded the 16750 and enjoyed a rather long production run spanning between 1988 and 1999. This GMT-Master brought several innovations to the market, such as the introduction of the hacking seconds and quickset-ready calibre 3175. The reference 16700 introduced the use of a sapphire crystal, transitioning the GMT-Master into the modern design age. The 16700 was given the GMT-Master denomination and was sold alongside the slightly more advanced reference 16710, bearing the GMT-Master II name.
The present timepiece dates from 1990 and is accompanied by a guarantee and presentation case. Still retaining strong proportions, it stands as a perfect example of Rolex's ability to swiftly upgrade their legendary dual-time wristwatch to cater for an increasingly demanding market.
