In 1969, Rolex concurrently launched reference 6263 and 6265, replacing the first ever Oyster Cosmograph Daytona reference 6240. Reference 6263 is easily distinguished by its acrylic tachometer bezel and screw-down pushers, and is the last Rolex Daytona produced with the manual winding Valjoux movement. 'Big Red' Daytonas, such as the present lot, perfectly blend modern and vintage chronograph characteristics. The screw-down crown and chronograph pushers, which increased water resistance, are typical of the later Daytonas, while the smaller size and the Valjoux movement hark back to more vintage styles. The current watch is accompanied by its original box and papers and is presented in exceptional and original condition, and has been consigned direct from the original purchaser.
