Boating on the Susquehanna

signed F. Richardt (lower right)

oil on canvas

canvas: 36 3/8 by 56 inches (92.4 by 142.2 cm)

framed: 47 by 66 1/2 inches (119.4 by 168.9 cm)

Painted in 1860.

The canvas is lined using glue as an adhesive and tacked over modern stretchers. Under UV: there appear to be scattered small spots of inpaint throughout the sky which have discolored and can be seen with the naked eye. The work retains an uneven varnish which reads strongly in the lower half of the composition.
