Description

An Italian ebonised and parcel-gilt circular centre table, Milan early 19th century

with a moulded Siena marble top above a berried laurel frieze on four supports in the form of helmets above a shield franked by swords, clubs and axes symmetrically disposed, on a concave-sided platform base

94cm. high, 135cm. diameter; 3ft. 1in., 4ft. 5in.

Condition report

The marble top with minor old marks and scratches consistent with age and use, with small areas of filling from irregularities in the veins. The top could benefit from a light clean according to taste. The table is in reasonable conserved condition with losses to the decoration, some old repaired breaks to carving, losses to gilding. Decoration refreshed and two half beads missing to fascia. The straps that tie to the swords on one trophy arrangement have been broken. The base with slight movement to joints. Evidence of an old woodworm activity which no longer appears to be active.
