THOMAS MOLESWORTH

A RARE SIX-LEG LIBRARY TABLE

circa 1940

burled fir, red and black leather, hammered brass tacks

30¼ in. (76.8 cm) high

48½ in. (123.2 cm) diameter

Overall in very good condition. The wood with scattered minor surface scratches, abrasions, dents and discolorations consistent with age and use. The wood with some occasional irregularities and separations to the grain, which is typical of inland fir and most of which were filled in by the artist at the time of production. The wood surface with some craquelure to the clear varnish which is not visually distracting and only visible upon close inspection. The leather has been sensitively replaced in a manner consistent with the artist’s intent and presents with some scattered minor surface scratches, extremely minor abrasions, some minor creasing and with some occasional faint discolorations and impressions including one linear impression towards the outer edge of the table top. The leather with some subtle surface undulation resulting from changes in humidity. An incredibly rare and complex work with elegant proportions and beautiful burled wood selection.
