Description
CHURCHILL, SIR WINSTON
EARLY AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED, TO SIR LEWIS MOLESWORTH
written as recently re-elected Member of Parliament for Oldham and marked "Private", defending himself from Molesworth's criticism of his attitude to the Boer War as expressed in a speech at Leicester, about which he claims Molesworth was misled by a newspaper extract, 3 pages, 8vo, 105 Mount Street, W., [Mayfair, London], 29 October 1901
"...I do not consider the war "an unmitigated nuisance". Far from it; I regard it as a "supreme cause" and the object of my remarks and their whole tenor is to deprecate the apathy...and to point out how v[er]y dangerous such a habit of mind may become...I can assure you I am far from regarding this war with levity or inattention..."
Sir Lewis Molesworth (1853-1912) was Liberal Unionist MP for Bodmin.
