Description
PAUL MCCARTNEY
CLOWN DRAWING
depicting a circus clown on a ball holding a bucket and a cane, 265 x 200mm, coloured pencil on lined paper removed from a pad, [c.1975], mounted, framed and glazed (frame size 451 x 342 mm)
[with:] Denny Laine, typed letter of authenticity signed, noting that McCartney produced this drawing whilst in the studio working on the album Venus and Mars, 1 page, September 1989, separately framed and glazed
The Wings recorded most of the tracks on Venus and Mars in New Orleans between 20 January and 20 February 1975. They were in the city for carnival (11 February), which Paul and Linda McCartney attended in clown costumes. This sketch was presumably made at that time. 'My Carnival', recorded just after "Fat Tuesday", commemorated the event in song, and was given a cajun feel by the use of a local horn section. ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY PAUL MCCARTNEY ARE RARE ON THE MARKET.
