This carpet bears the mark of the famous Reymbouts workshop, active in Brussels from the 15th until the 17th century. It was probably part from the decoration of a whole room including a set of tapestries and a table carpet, called an emmeublemens. The Paris musée des Arts Décoratifs keeps a similar tapestry known as the Tenture aux singes after Hans Vredeman de Vries and Cornelis Floris, Brussels, circa 1560 (inv. 10174).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
