The maker’s mark HK crowned appears to be recorded from a Brassó hallmarked cup and cover in the Magyar Nemzeti Museum, Budapest, which shares an almost identical finial with this tankard. The cup was also exhibited István Fodor et al., Baroque Splendor, The Art of the Hungarian Goldsmith, New York, August 25-October 30, 1994, no 3, at which exhibition the cataloguers described the mark as  “HK’ without illustrating it.  Since almost all maker’s mark in Brassó (Kronstadt) at this period are crowned it is reasonable to assume that like it is on the tankard, this 'HK' mark on the cup was also crowned. A late 16th century unmarked Transylvanian beaker in the same museum has feathery strapwork and fruit roundels divided by strapwork like those on the tankard. See same exhibition no.1.
