This vessel is a variant on a more elaborate model known as a sewing box made for Queen Maria Josepha which is discussed in Pietsch, U., Die Arbeitsberichte des Meissener Porzellanmodelleurs Johann Joachim Kaendler, 1706-1775, Leipzig, 2002, pp. 57-8.  The form is inspired by a silver model and this version has simpler handles and is not supported on feet.  The extensive pierced work on the 18th century version is simulated in the current example.
