The bases with satyr masks now supporting the large fruit or flower stands illustrate the versatility of the Christofle firm where elements might be interchangeable. These bases surmounted by candleabra branches were exhibited in 1862 at the Universal Exhibition in London. They were the model chosen by Empress Eugenie for her home in England, Farnborough Hill, after the fall of her husband Napoleon III in 1870
