In Gothic style, each embossed and chased differently with four scenes of elaborately armoured warriors enclosed by embossed, chased and applied gothic leafage, repeated at the hinged covers with a series of heraldic birds in vine leaves, lion and shield thumbpieces, warrior finials with armorial shields, on St George and Dragon supports, unidentified German marks including assay scrapes and support mounts marked by Gorham Corporation, Providence Rhode Island, 1881
