A GOLD SNUFF BOX, CARL WEISHAUPT & SÖHNE, HANAU CIRCA 1830


rectangular, all sides with engine-turned acanthus leaf and scrollwork decoration in a moiré pattern resembling damask, chased thumbpiece centred with a stylised shell, maker's mark, gold standard mark illegible, in fitted silk-lined morocco leather case, accompanied by a handwritten note of provenance,

The accompanying note reads: Given to Mr. C. G. Williams in Russia by Prince Woronsoff, about 1854, and presented by the former to his godson, Mr. S. J. Newman, of Grigshot, Strond, Gloc.
