Jason Pickleman is an artist and designer, known for producing graphic material for a wide-ranging cultural clientele through his studio JNL. Hourglass is the second work in his Icons series, which examines the interstitial space between commercial graphic design and symbolic form making. Utilizing the same material and technical process used in the fabrication of indoor/outdoor municipal signage, the work simplifies the geometry of a classical symbol for the passage of time and fragility of life. By rendering it with a pop sensibility, Pickleman acknowledges the universal qualities shared by enduring cultural symbology and the visual language of civic communication.

A recent solo exhibition of Pickleman’s work was on view at Ken Saunders Gallery, Chicago, and his work has been included in exhibitions at Monique Meloche Gallery, Chicago; Devening Projects, Chicago; and the Design Museum of Chicago. Following the closure of his collection gallery Lawrence & Clark in mid-2020, he launched Pickleman, a hybrid art acquisitions and advisory service based in Chicago.
