Ida Rubinstein's second production of Strauss's opera Salomé was first performed at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris on June 10, 1912 with choreography by Michel Fokine and costumes by Bakst. The libretto is Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of Oscar Wilde’s 1891 French play of the same name. The character of John the Baptist was renamed Jochanaan.
