EDWARD STEICHEN | MR. AND MRS. -- THE SANDBURGS, ELMHURST, ILLINOIS
MR. AND MRS. -- THE SANDBURGS, ELMHURST, ILLINOIS
palladium print, partial caption and date in pencil on the reverse, 1923
7 by 7½ in. (17.8 by 19.1 cm.)
This palladium print, trimmed to the image and with a pleasing sepia tonality, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination, there is an area of cracquelure and possible retouching in Lilian's forehead. There are some scattered glossy deposits.
On the reverse of the print, '...and Mrs." Elmhurst, Illinois 1923'; 'Sandburgs, VF Nov 1923'; and 'PF36328' are written in pencil in unidentified hands. The reverse is yellowed, abraded in several areas, particularly on the right side, suggesting it was previously affixed to a mount. There is a faint tideline along the lower edge.
