PORTRAIT OF VIRGINIA 'MIMI' WHITEHEAD
palladium print, tipped to a paper mount, signed in pencil on the mount, framed, a Michael Shapiro Photographs label on the reverse, circa 1920
9½ by 7⅝ in. (24.1 by 19.4 cm.)
This early palladium print has a rich sepia tonality and lush matte surface. It is tipped at the upper edge to a buff mount and bears the photographer's tight early signature. There are a few fox marks on the mount and possibly in the image. The mount is age-appropriately darkened overall on the front and reverse, notably at the edges. The reverse of the mount has scattered foxmarks, a very faint pencil drawing of an indiscernible subject.
