Condition report

The canvas is lined and is stable on its stretcher. The image reads well beneath a clear varnish. There is a fine pattern of stable craquelure throughout that is not distracting. Some spots of canvas have been slightly pressed, such as in the bowl of fruit in the upper left. Inspection under UV reveals a thick varnish that fluoresces unevenly and is difficult to read through in some areas. It also reveals a more recent campaign of retouching that attends to the extreme edges, the center of the upper edge, and the upper left corner. There are some fine spots and strokes on the edges of the bowls, some small strokes in the background to the upper right of the lower right bowl, scattered spots on the peaches at upper left, and some strokes of strengthening in the dark details on the cherries at lower center. There may be an old horizontal repair in the lower portion of the fruit in the bowl at lower right. Offered in a simply carved and painted frame with some scattered nicks and losses.
