New York, Dickinson Roundell, Rome and The Campagna: Oil sketches by Auguste Jean-Baptiste Vinchon and other French artists, 6 May - 3 June 1999, no. 11.

Rome and The Campagna: Oil sketches by Auguste Jean-Baptiste Vinchon and other French artists, exhibition catalogue, New York 1999, pp. 16-7, cat. no. 11, reproduced.

The Casino was demolished in 1849 during the Siege of Rome, adding a historical element to this plein air work. The building takes a secondary role in this composition as light and shadow become its protagonists. This style of painting is characterized by the application of luminous effects from natural light, which Vinchon beautifully masters.
